Owens Corning, incorporated on July 21, 2006, is a holding company, which is engaged in the business of composite and building materials systems. The Company's products range from glass fiber used to reinforce composite materials for transportation, electronics, marine, infrastructure, wind-energy and other markets to insulation and roofing for residential, commercial and industrial applications. The Company operates in three segments, namely, Composites, Insulation and Roofing.
Composites
The Company's Composites segment sells glass fiber and/or glass mat directly to a range of shingle manufacturers, including its own Roofing segment. Its Composites segment consists of its Reinforcements and Downstream businesses. Within the Reinforcements business, the Company manufactures, fabricates and sells glass reinforcements in the form of fiber. Within the Downstream business, the Company manufactures and sells glass fiber products in the form of fabrics, non-wovens and other specialized products. The Company's glass fiber materials have a range of end-use applications in approximately five markets, such as building and construction, transportation, consumer, industrial, and power and energy. The end-use applications include pipe, roofing shingles, sporting goods, consumer electronics, telecommunications cables, boats, aviation, defense, automotive, industrial containers and wind-energy. Its other products include oxidized asphalt and roofing accessories.
Insulation
The Company's Insulation products include thermal and acoustical batts, loosefill insulation, foam sheathing and accessories, and are sold under various brand names, such as Owens Corning PINK FIBERGLAS Insulation. Its Insulation segment also manufactures and sells glass fiber pipe insulation, duct media, bonded and granulated mineral fiber insulation, and foam insulation used in above- and below-grade construction applications. The Company also sells its insulation products to insulation installers, home centers, lumberyards, retailers and distributors in the United States and Canada.
Roofing
